Diamond Doublet Pic 3

This project took about 4 days. I used McCalls #4695 to make this doublet, which was made from an antique gold/black diamond upholstery fabric and lined with black poplin (broadcloth was too thin to work properly). I had to fit this three times to get it just right on dad -- twice on the muslin mockup, and once on the final product before it was turned right-side-out. I ended up having to add an inch and a half to the side seams of the front-side pieces, and had to reangle the side seams to accomodate his waist. So, I had to create a posterboard pattern for the front-side pieces, and because of adding the width to the doublet, I had to widen the waist peplum. Only needed to add back darts (the pattern wanted 4 darts...), and ran out of time to tack on the shoulder caps, but I'll get to that later (it looked fine without the caps). Instead of using frog clasps up the front, I handsewed ribbon loops between the outer and lining fabrics, and handsewed (on the way TO the feast this was made for) the gold/black buttons on. If I had had more buttons, I'd have used twice as many :3 I'm a button freak (if the sleeves of my green gown didn't make that obvious XD ). The doublet got lots of compliments, several from experienced seamstresses, which kinda boosted my ego

Next project. Make dad a matching flat cap for an x-mas gift ^^

For my first sewing project for someone other than me, or for someone not my size, I think I did really well on it. Mom was definately impressed, and dad loves his new doublet ^^
