PD Challenge 2 - Cocktail Gown by ladylucrezia PD Challenge 2 - Cocktail Gown by ladylucrezia
I would title it "Cocktail Dress", but it only fit "dres" in, so "gown" it is ^^;

Anywho, my original concept for this challenge, which was to design a cocktail dress for a "Save the animals" party was based off a Grey Crested Crane. However, as one of the other entrants for the contest chose the same bird, I switched over to this lovely bird called the Victoria Crowned Pigeon:

This is one of the best pics I found on dev for a color reference, aside from photos sent to me by my friend in FL who knows a few of the pigeons: [link]

Fabric choices. I'd have to go with silkessence (an alternative to real silk, as to protect the silkworms) for the gown (silkessence adds a little bit of texture), though a dyed silk could work just as well for someone who preferred the real thing. Pleated taffeta would be used for the underskirt. The choker could either be made of the silkessence or a sheer ribbon (organza possibly). The straps of the dress are pearl strands that criss-cross across the back. The necklace is a silver pendant with a ruby jewel, and the earrings are red bead hoops. In the hair is a barrette with synthetic feathers that are reminiscent of the feathers on the crown of the pigeon. The shoes are nice dark red, verging on burgundy, pumps (styled like this [link] ). A lil note, yes the skirting is angled to expose a bit more of the pleated fabric beneath, on the right (model's left side) of the gown. I like the contrast part in the middle of the gown, as the shape of it (and I think the color too) adds a nice slimming effect. And I like the little drape at the top ^^ It's cute! Oh, and you may ask, why the pleating? Cuz it reminds me of the feathers in a bird's wing and tail :D

And why design the dress around a bird such as this? To show respect to the beauty and elegance of the Victoria Crowned Pigeon, so that hopefully people will be less inclined to do harm to the bird :) That is the theme after all... "Save the animals!"

it's a very beautiful design. once again very elegant, and believe it or not, unless i'm wearing a choker of some sort, my neck feels vulnerable too for some reason. i thought i was weird(which i am) but now i don't feel quite so alone :)

Gorgeous idea for a dress, I love the pearl straps. I'm generally of the opinion that straps should be kinda fun, not just for holding the dress up. For my junior prom my dress's straps were little silk roses. ^_^

Good luck in the contest! :heart:

Yeah, boring plain straps are just...boring. Even if it just has one of those adjusting thingies on it, it still makes it kewler.

Aw, roses!! :D

I love the design. It has a nice flow to it, and it reminds me of a flapper dress, but much more flattering:-)

I love your style! This gown looks great, and very polished. When I see your designs, I'm somewhat reminded of the character Xianghua from the Soul Calibur fighting series... [link] Something in the use of high collars and baby blues, perhaps? Whatever it is, I admire your style and look forward to competing with you.

P.S. Pearls FTW.

I don't usually use blues in my designs ^^; I don't know much about Soul Calibur either, except that it's a fighting vid game. I luf high collar outfits, and any outfit I could use a choker with (I have a thing for chokers because of an incident several years ago, which has made me feel that if I'm not wearing something somewhat tight around my neck, it's vulnerable. Loooong story, but that's why you'll see lots of chokers in my designs.)

FTW? *confuzzled*

"For the win." I'm pro-pearls.

I'm very pro-choker, too. I use a choker in almost every one of my designs, not that you'd know it to look at my da profile.
