I'm a temp-for-hire with Kelly Services now! I will finally have some paying work soon! So here's the story...

Yesterday I got a call and set up an appointment to drop by the AA Kelly Services office for "skills testing". So I got there twenty minutes early for my appointment (10 am) this morning and was asked to fill out a bunch of paperwork. Finished that, then met with Nadia (whom I had met back at the MI Collegiate Job Fair a few weeks ago) who recognized me immediately and had me do some skill testing. It was basically this cute lil program designed to test various skills in programs like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and then a general typing speed/accuracy test (5 mins timed). Flew through all those, so quickly even for the typing one that it couldn't keep up with me and I had to wait for it to scroll down :b I got my normal 80 WPM and near perfect accuracy (I accidentally only left one space after a period instead of two...my bad). Nadia was floored by my Excel skills in particular, along with the fact that I have a bunch of experience (not tons, but more than just "basic") using Access too. Apparently they have had to turn down various clients who needed highly proficient Excel/Access workers in the past. Not anymore *big grin*. Next thing I knew, I was filling out tax forms ;) So I'm in! Whoo!!!!!!

I KNEW my insane love of Excel and MS Office (period!) would get me somewhere eventually! HAH! :D

I can't wait until I get the call for my first temp job! Yaaaays!!!! *runs amok*



On an unrelated note, I'm gonna see Iron Man with the local TF peeps this evening. I'm even finishing some red/yellow chainmaille for the occassion (yep, I'm a dork, hehe).

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! *flail*

Whoo! Congratz!~

That is really cool - I know a lot of people who don't like working with Excel and Access, which is stupid, because they are hard skills to find XP

And, Ironman is a fabulous movie - I wanna see it again!

I seen it twice ^^ Might still get to see it another time because one of my friends hasn't seen it yet :3

I'm obsessed with Excel...seriously. I don't know why, but I've always found my Excel and Powerpoint projects to be the most "fun" homework. I think my geek is showing...*cough*

Nothing wrong with that! We need a lot more people out there who can either a) put together decent Excel formulas or b) make an interesting PowerPoint presentation. Lord knows how many horrible one's I've had to sit through, even in my theatre/costuming classes!

I've always cringed at other people's PowerPoints, because it's either too overloaded with information, or hastily and sloppily made, no cliparts (thus boooring!), or somethin' else. I've been working with Office for so many years, and simple PowerPoint etiquette has been grilled into my brain :b Not everyone has had that kinda training with the stuff though, so I only get frustrated when I have to watch someone present a really craptastic one ^^;

Well, it's definitely a skill that they should be hiring professionals to do sometimes - the one for my costume history textbook was just bad... bad animated wipes all over the place, too much info on a page, and really bad color choices where you couldn't see anything :giggle:

I should contact them and say "I've sat through a class with this - hire this person, they know about costumes (which is always a bonus) plus they can do it right!"
